About Us

The Uganda Women’s Water Initiative (UWWI) is a community-based organization founded in 2012. It focuses on turning women and girls from being (WASH) burden bearers to WASH solutions providers in the face of climate change. The organization is driven by a passion to empower women to thrive in the face of climate change, with a special emphasis on women and children, in the spirit of Ubuntu.
UWWI team speaks multiple East African languages and have years of experience working with rural communities.
UWWI is therefore uniquely positioned to assist Community Based organizations and institutions with stakeholder research and accessing local knowledge.
• UWWI founders have a combined 30 years working experience in the water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), research, climate change programming, community mobilisation and integrated programming.

Community trainings/ Education
• Train women, girls and youth to build Low Cost appropriate Water, sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities to provide a close access to these services in the communities.
• Train women in Climate smart solutions like bio sand filters, energy saving stoves, rain water harvesting tanks, Eco san toilets, fireless cook stoves, Bio gas, vermiculture etc so that their able to learn and make use of these technologies at home as well as sell some for income.
• Train women girls and youth in environmental conservation Agroforestry.
• Train women, girls and youth in establishment and use of bio intensive gardens to enable them have all year round access to food with the surplus sold to enhance livelihood.
• Train in simple Business (book keeping and marketing) skills to ensure businesses thrive hence economic stability.
• Rapid response to emergencies: Projects during the COVID – 19 PandemicLocal consultations in research and project designs and management
